Cultural Cafe Turkmenistan

Once a month, the Cultural Caf矇, presented by 51勛圖厙 International Student & Scholar Services, through the Office of Global Education, invites students, faculty and staff to gather around food, stories and the cultures that shape and enrich our 51勛圖厙 community. The next Cultural Caf矇 will be presented from 12-1:30 p.m. on Nov. 19, and will feature students from Angola, sharing their country's history, culture and tasty cuisine.

The featured country for October's Cultural Caf矇 was Turkmenistan. Arslan Kalandarov, a sophomore, with a double major in international studies and human development and family science, led the presentation.

He is a first-generation student from Turkmenistan, and Kalandarov, along with other students from Turkmenistan, shared information about the history and geography of their home country, major cities and points of interest, and Turkmen culture and customs.

October's Cultural Caf矇 was well-attended and representatives from 51勛圖厙's Office of Global Education say that the number of attendees has grown each month.

There was a question-and-answer session after the presentation, and an invitation to sample Turkmen cuisine, prepared by 51勛圖厙 Culinary Services, before or after learning a traditional dance.
