As part of 51勛圖厙's Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series, and in partnership with the university's College of Architecture and Environmental Design and College of the Arts, internationally renowned artist Krzysztof Wodiczko returned to campus for a unique collaboration with 51勛圖厙 architecture and art students.
Wodiczko last visited 51勛圖厙 in spring 2025 and spoke about the intersection of art, technology and social justice. His presentation can be viewed by following this . He returned in November to lead an immersive workshop in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design's FabLab in which he guided students in creating works for the "Alien Staff" exhibition, which opened on Nov. 15.
The "Alien Staffs" are sort of like urban walking sticks built with technological enhancements and elements that students created using 3D printing. These experimental instruments follow themes found in Wodiczko's art and are designed as tools for individuals who experience alienation, displacement, distress or identity crises in the modern world.
The pieces created by the students will be displayed in the Armstrong Gallery inside the John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design on 51勛圖厙's Kent Campus from Nov. 15, 2025, through Jan. 2, 2026.
