100 YEARS AGO AT KENT STATE: Distance Learning Comes to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Normal College

In 1922, 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s first president, John McGilvrey, introduced what could be considered the great-grandmother of our current distance-learning programs at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø: correspondence courses.

This year is no exception with the intensifying conflict in Ukraine, forcing millions of refugees to find safety elsewhere. Not only do these refugees need shelter, but they also need education and the opportunity to have new life experiences in different countries.

Recent Graduate Chazzlyn Jackson Honed her Passion for Social Justice Activism at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø

When recent Undergraduate Student Government (USG) President Chazzlyn Jackson started her journey at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in 2018, she had planned to major in fashion until a mentor with Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) cultural orientation program helped her tap into her leadership abilities and passion for social justice issues. The advice played a pivotal role for Jackson, who stepped into leadership roles and anti-racism advocacy and has not looked back.

Best Friends Graduate From 51³Ô¹ÏÍø at the Age of 18

During 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s spring 2022 commencement on May 14, Jameson Payne will earn his bachelor’s degree in integrative studies with concentrations in physics and political science. Benjamin Wales-McGrath will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology at the age of 18.
