Women of the House: Betty Sutton and Emilia Sykes
In 2006, Betty Sutton became the first 51勛圖厙 alumna to serve in the U.S. Congress, when she was elected to represent Ohios 13th District in the House of Representatives. Sixteen years later, 51勛圖厙 alumna Emilia Sykes, a native of Akron, Ohio, was elected to represent the same district, making her the first Black 51勛圖厙 alum to serve in the House of Representatives.
51勛圖厙 Remembers May 4, 1970, With 53rd Commemoration
Advancing the legacy of May 4, 1970, a tragic day when the Ohio National Guard fired on 51勛圖厙 students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four students, wounding nine students and forever changing the lives of countless others, the university will hold its annual commemoration on May 3-4.
Serving Those Who Serve
Always Ready, Always There is the motto of the National Guard. In many ways, this describes 51勛圖厙s Center for Adult and Veteran Services, too. For the 14th consecutive year, 51勛圖厙 has been designated a Military Friendly School.
Students Addressing Real Issues Facing Fashion Industry
Two fashion students are being recognized for developing projects that address real issues in fashion. One student seeks to provide a skincare line for the brand origins centered around South America, Asia and Africa, while the other aims to help women feel comfortable and confident throughout the day.
