Three new college and career academies at Akron’s Firestone Community Learning Center will bear the name of 51�Թ���, as part of a new partnership announced Feb. 21 between the university and Akron Public Schools.

51�Թ��� is the latest in a growing number of area businesses and organizations that have joined hands with Akron Public Schools for its new College and Career Academies for Akron high schools.

The 51�Թ��� Board of Trustees adopted a 10-year facilities master plan that embarks on a $1 billion transformative journey of the Kent Campus to better serve the needs of students and the entire 51�Թ��� community. The plan enhances the welcoming feel of the university’s iconic Front Campus and genuine sense of place, elevates inclusive healthy living-learning environments, links a campus-wide series of spaces focused on innovation and expands the dynamic synergy with the city of Kent.

Batman is coming to 51�Թ���.

In fact, so are Birdman, Betelgeuse and Vulture.

Oscar-nominated actor Michael Keaton will return to the campus he once walked as a student while dreaming about making it big in Hollywood. The leading man who has inspired millions in iconic roles on the big screen will now inspire thousands of new 51�Թ��� graduates as he delivers the commencement address May 12 during 51�Թ���’s university-wide Commencement ceremony.

Sandy Scheuer was on her way to class on May 4, 1970, when she was shot and killed by Ohio National Guardsmen responding to protests of the Vietnam War at 51�Թ���. Now, almost 50 years later, Ms. Scheuer’s life will be the subject of a new exhibit at the May 4 Visitors Center at 51�Թ���.
 

Trees fill the sky every season as far as the eye can see as 51�Թ��� students walk down the Lefton Esplanade on the Kent Campus. Large oaks provide shade on a warm summer day, glistening maple trees leave a blanket of orange and red on the ground as students move back into the residence halls in the fall and snow-covered pines bring to life the holiday spirit for a 51�Թ��� winter.

Kendra Snatchko is about to graduate from 51�Թ���, and her eyes are focused on a bright future. Remarkably, her vision of the future started forming when she was only 12 years old. 

Eli Kalil, a junior applied communications major at 51�Թ���, saw just how powerful the tool of social media can be when he posted an inspiring tweet involving his mother in late January.

Police officers rarely find out how victims are doing after a crisis. But 51�Թ��� Police Officer Anne Spahr recalls the moment when she knew she had saved a life.

A long way from rural Mansfield, Ohio, the girl who grew up with cows in her backyard was now halfway around the world learning Swahili and teaching children how to speak English.

51�Թ���’s DeWeese Health Center is on a mission to create a culture of wellness on campus that incorporates body, mind, spirit and financial well-being, as well as a sense of community.
