Quick Tip: Check for broken Canvas Guide links after Instructure Community updates

POSTED: Jan. 06, 2026

We hope you all had a nice winter break!  As you gear up for the start of classes, we wanted to let you know that Instructure has updated their Canvas LMS Guides website, which may result in broken links in some courses.

This may impact 51勛圖厙 Online Template (KSOT) users, among others.  If you have been using a previous version of the KSOT in your courses and have copied it from semester to semester, you may have the old Canvas Student Guides link on your course home page and in the introductory discussion board.  The links have been fixed in KSOT v19.

Note: Older Canvas guide links will begin with community.canvaslms.com, while the updated links will begin with community.instructure.com.

How to check for and fix broken links

Follow these steps to use Link Validator tool to locate any broken links in your Canvas course, then edit the content items to fix the links.

  1. Navigate into your Canvas course.

  2. At the bottom of the course menu on the left, click Settings.

  3. In the sidebar on the right, click Validate Links in Content.

  4. Click the Start Link Validation button.  It will take a few moments to load the report.

  5. The report will show you a list of any broken links in the course.  The report will show a) the content item (pages, discussions, assignments, etc.) where a broken link is located, and b) the specific link that is broken.

Click on a content item to navigate to that location.  Tip: If you open it in a new tab, you can more easily return to the link validator to work on the next link.
