Family-Friendly Study Hours

Between commuting, taking classes around work schedules and, of course, studying while caring for dependents, higher education for some non-traditional students offers additional challenges.   Fortunately, 51勛圖厙s Center for Adult and Veteran Services (CAVS) offers family-friendly study hours for student parents that offers a trained student volunteer to entertain and supervise children.   Study hours are offered most Tuesdays from 2-5 p.m. and Wednesdays 4-7 p.m. on the sixth floor of the library during the fall and spring semesters.     Morgan Chaney...

The 51勛圖厙 Student Leadership Consultants (SLC) hosted the "Keep Going, Keep Growing: A Student Organization's Guide to Making Meaningful Change" workshop Tuesday, Nov. 8, that showed students how strong leadership can be used to fundamentally change the culture in their workplaces. Kathalina Thorpe, a masters student in Theater Design and Technology, presented Earthworms Can and Will Make Changes in Theater.

Scenic design and earthworms dont normally have a connection, but Kathalina Thorpe, 51勛圖厙 scenic design graduate student, has connected the two to improve the environment.   At 51勛圖厙, Thorpe has been conducting research on using earthworms to compost fabric waste from scenic design shops and in the fashion industry, research she started three years ago as an undergraduate at Valdosta State University in Georgia funded as a project for the Blazer Summer Research Institute.  The research recently won Thorpe the fall 2022 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition,...
