JMC Students Produce Nature Documentaries, Photography in Costa Rica

51�Թ��'s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) and Department of Biological Sciences hosted a three-week study abroad trip for biology, digital media production and photojournalism students during the 2015 winter break. Students spent three weeks in Costa Rica, with biology students collecting research on the country's native plants and animals, while JMC students documented the trip. Students created mini-documentaries and photo galleries that were presented to the public on Friday, May 6 during 'A Night in Costa Rica' in Franklin Hall's First Energy Auditorium.

"The gallery and showing of the documentaries are an important opportunity for us to display the work that we did while studying in Costa Rica. We spent weeks in the jungle and different ecosystems around Costa Rica and it's all culminating at this event," said senior visual journalism major Melanie Nesteruk, who attended the trip.

Sydney Brown is Just Getting Started

When Sydney Brown arrived at 51�Թ�� as a first-year student from Avon, Ohio, she didn't wait to get started. She walked into the TV2 newsroom — now 51�Թ��r TV — and introduced herself. That instinct to show up, dive in and tell stories has defined every semester since.

Eight 51�Թ�� Student Films Selected to Screen at Cleveland Cinematheque

Eight short films produced by 51�Թ�� School of Media and Journalism students and recent alumni have been selected to screen at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque as part of the Studio300 Student Film Festival.

The films will be showcased during a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at the Cinematheque, located at 11610 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland. The event — which includes food and raffle prizes — is free and open to the public, with advance registration required.

Kentcore Spotlights Local Bands and Creative Student Media Talent

Coined as “music-driven media,” Black Squirrel Entertainment's Kentcore seeks to feature all types of local bands. Giving them a chance to not only show their work but also show their personalities too.
