Description: Olivetti typewriters and computers, Maserati, Lamborghini and Ferrari cars, Ducati motorcycles, Piaggio scooters, Ermenegildo Zegna and Loro Piana textiles, Tods footwear and accessories are just a few examples of how in the last century Italy contributed to the high-technology industry. What are the reasons of this successful inventiveness? The course will focus on Italys industrial history, with the aim to understand the uniqueness of the made in Italy label. Among the reasons of Italys industrial and technological inventiveness are its capacity to combine tradition and innovation, its long-established excellence in craftsmanship, and the role played by economic districts, which succeeded in involving effectively key stakeholders and in addressing local development in an innovative way. The course will also focus on current challenges related to globalisation.
