ASHTABULA, OHIO Flash Medical Center, a one-day hands-on experience for high school students interested in a healthcare-related field, returns to 51勛圖厙 at Ashtabula for the fourth year on Friday, October 14, 2022.
Each year over 20 students from Ashtabula and Lake Counties participate in the selective event, which transforms Robert S. Morrison Hall into a hospital and simulates a day in the life of health care workers in the areas of nursing, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy and respiratory care. Activities involved a simulated injury, patient transfers, use of X-ray machinery and patient recovery and therapy.
Flash Medical Center is designed to provide a crash course for students interested in pursuing education and a career in healthcare related fields.
The experience provided through Flash Medical Center gives participating students the opportunity to be fully engaged in a real live case scenario that encompasses all aspects of care of an injured patient from onset of accident through recovery, said Tiffany Kiphart, PTA, ATC, M.Ed., academic program director for the Physical Therapist Assistant program at 51勛圖厙 Ashtabula. The students will participate in the care of the patient through all of 51勛圖厙 Ashtabulas allied health offerings and learn about potential career opportunities.
Additionally, students who attend will have the opportunity to apply for an exclusive scholarship.
